HOW TO APPLY

Applying to the Law Enforcement Academy is a multi-step process, and the following tasks must be completed in order.

You cannot enter the selection process until these steps are completed.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 573-518-2148 or email lea@mineralarea.edu.

  1. Complete the application for the law enforcement academy here.

  2. Pay the $100 application fee here.

  3. Schedule an academy registration appointment here. This is important. You will complete the required state licensing paperwork and schedule your physical testing at this appointment.

    • When you come for your appointment, please bring the following documents:

      • Valid Driver's License

      • High School Diploma/ GED Certificate or transcripts

      • Birth Certificate

    • If you have ever been arrested, or if you have been ticketed for anything other than a minor traffic violation—even if the case was dismissed or your record was expunged—you will need to provide information to Missouri POST.

      • For each arrest or ticket, you will need to provide the following:

        • A certified copy of the police report

        • Certified copies of the court records

        • A typed personal narrative detailing your account of the incident

      • Please try to have these documents ready for your appointment.

    • Your physical fitness testing will be scheduled during this appointment.

  4. Apply as a student to Mineral Area College here, and submit all necessary documents to finalize your MAC admissions.

    • If you did not take the ACT in high school, you may need to schedule a time to take the 3-part Accuplacer exam.

    • You can find more information about MAC admissions here.

    • Note: acceptance to MAC is not an official acceptance to the law enforcement academy. Acceptance to the law enforcement academy will be determined following a final interview.

  5. Complete the FAFSA here.

    • If you plan to use military benefits, please contact Tippi Seals at 573-518-2202.

Strong communication skills are a requirement for law enforcement professionals. Throughout the recruiting process, you are expected to demonstrate these skills by keeping in communication with academy staff via email and telephone. Please ensure that your voicemail is set up and that you check your email regularly. We recommend saving our office line as a contact so you do not miss a call. If, for any reason, you decide not to continue with the application process, please inform us so we can remove you from our roster and cease our attempts to contact you.
